On 2 September 2021, I’ll be presenting to the Perth Machine Learning Group on the topic “Robot as Inventor; Robot as Infringer”.
In a world first, the Australian Federal Court decided at the end of July that an AI system can be an inventor for the purposes of the Patents Act. This has caused quite some excitement in my area of practice, and I look forward to discussing this new development in the presentation.
My presentation was actually deferred from early July, when Perth had a snap lockdown. I was initially planning to discuss infringement issues when feeding input data when teaching machine learning systems, which I also plan to discuss, but the new development means we have more to talk about!
