As 2025 draws to a close, it’s an opportunity to look back at the busy year gone by, and share some of our highlights.
Home Building Podcast

In November 2025, my podcast debut was released. I was interviewed by host Behan Flaherty from Independent Building Advice on the Home Building Podcast to discuss copyright in drawings and plans, as well as commonly misunderstood copyright myths in the building & construction sector. This was a fun discussion. Listen in to the podcast via this page on our website.
Submissions workshop with WADSIH & PMLG

In early September, I co-presented a really topical workshop, hosted by WA Data Science Innovation Hub (WADSIH) and the Perth Machine Learning Group (PMLG), on the key copyright issues raised in the Harnessing Data and Digital Technology interim report released by the Productivity Commission in August 2025. Should text and data mining (TDM) for machine learning be an exception to copyright infringement? This topic generated a lot of engaging discussion in the room.
Since then, the Australian government has confirmed that it will not be amending the Copyright Act to create a new TDM copyright infringement exception. It will be interesting to see how the Productivity Commission’s report tackles this point when it is publicly released. There is still much to see in this space, as the intersection between AI and IP law continues to provide policy and legal framework challenges for us all.
Recognition in Doyle’s Guide 2025

I was listed as “Recommended” in the Doyle’s Guide individual category of Leading Intellectual Property Lawyers – Western Australia 2025, published on 15 April 2025. Stratocumulus Legal was also listed as “Recommended” in the listing of Leading Western Australian Intellectual Property Law Firms.
I’m very pleased to have been recognised by clients and peers. Thank you!
Spacecubed Office Hours Mentor Program

Along with other industry professionals, investors and VC’s across Australia, I’ve been participating in Spacecubed’s “Office Hours” program as a mentor for startup founders who are Spacecubed members.
The program aims to create a unique opportunity to connect directly with industry professionals and advisers in personalised 15-minute one-on-one meetings, to discuss business ideas, seek advice on specific challenges, and explore new opportunities. For me, it’s a great way to connect with the start-up community and offer intellectual property guidance and support.
AI, Machine Learning and the Disruption of Intellectual Property
If you are a legal practitioner looking for an extra CPD point over the summer break, you could do worse than view my presentation titled “AI, Machine Learning and the Disruption of Intellectual Property” which I delivered back on 24 October 2023 through the Law Society of Western Australia’s CPD program.
The Law Society of Western Australia has made a recording of my presentation available (fees may apply) here: https://cpdonline.lawsocietywa.asn.au/lawsocietywa/3520-ai-machine-learning-and-the-disruption-of-intellectual-property-c4
